Southern
Oregon’s Rogue Valley thrives on a diversity of ideas
and industries from timber to trade to tourism. Current economic
development includes a booming wine region, expanding medical
facilities and growing retail opportunities. Low property
taxes and no sales tax are pluses that attract the region
to future businesses and residents.
Medford is the Rogue Valley’s
largest and most diverse city, providing metropolitan amenities
such as two hospitals and an international airport serviced
by America West, Delta, Horizon and United airlines. But with
a population of just over 70,000, the lifestyle is decidedly
small town.
In the past few years, Money Magazine
has listed both Medford and nearby Ashland (population 20,800)
as “Top Places to Retire” citing climate, cultural
life, outdoor activities and affordability.
Tourism is especially important to the Rogue Valley. The region
offers cultural attractions that rival those of major cities,
including world-renowned theater and art venues. Recreational
opportunities abound, highlighted by the Wild and Scenic Rogue
River and Crater Lake National Park.
Local Chambers of Commerce are working together to guide the
region’s economic future. A strong sense of environmental
stewardship, cultural awareness and know-your-neighbor friendliness
all help ensure the region’s unique nature will remain
unspoiled for generations to come.
