Outdoor
attractions are a major reason Southern Oregon’s Rogue
Valley is such a spectacular place to live, work and retire.
Unspoiled areas abound for hiking, biking, fishing, skiing,
rafting and just enjoying nature’s beauty.
Oregon’s only National Park, Crater Lake, is a spectacular
50-mile drive from Medford along scenic Highway 62. The deepest
lake in America, its striking blue color and pristine beauty
are legendary.
Southeast of Medford, Oregon Caves National Monument is another
famous attraction, offering tours through amazing marble caverns
and hiking amid ancient forests.
Originating near Crater Lake and etching its way west through
canyons and over boulders to the Pacific Ocean, the 215-mile
Rogue River is a highlight of Southern Oregon. 84 miles of
the river are designated as National Wild and Scenic, a protection
given to only eight rivers in the country for their environmental
value. Recreational opportunities along the Rogue include
salmon, steelhead and trout fishing, hiking, white water rafting
and jet boat tours.
Mt. Ashland Ski Area, 45 minutes from Medford, offers great
winter downhill skiing on 23 trails plus chute skiing and
boarding in its famous bowl.
Heading south and west, visitors can easily explore the California
Redwoods and Pacific Ocean along the California and Oregon
coasts.
