27
family and locally owned wineries make up the Southern
Oregon Winery Association, formed in 2001 to promote the
area’s growing wine industry. These include the
Rogue, Umpqua and Applegate Valleys.
Diverse microclimates and soils have allowed growers to
experiment with several varietals. Cabernet Sauvingon,
Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay,
Viognier, Riesling, Pinot Gris and Zinfandel are among
the many wines produced locally.
